Post #22. River Report for January 2021

January 24, 2021:
A sad sprinkling of silent cold tears.

Walking east on the riverside trail,

I stopped to listen …

thought I’d heard a voice singing or crying.

The voice stopped as I scanned the riverbank,

there was a person sitting on the ground

barely visible through the thick brush.

I circled back walking closer,

hoping to hear the voice again,

was it sad as I imagined?

Moved closer to the river on a well-used path

to take a picture of the row of forgotten pilings

supporting new life in the air, above high water.

It was a woman’s voice. Without moving,

I got a glimpse of her colorful leggings

stretched out on the path ahead.
